In a spectacular victory, Stephanie Briggs retained the governorship of her own life. Running on the platform of personal responsibility, she took control of her thoughts and actions to become one of millions of people to assert their right to do so.
Yesterday we voted. Not all people living on the planet today can say that. There are people living on this planet who cannot voice their opinions, cannot walk around their communities in safety, cannot begin to enjoy the freedoms so many of us take for granted.
We have rights, hard-fought and hard-won in the trenches of everyday life, and now that we have them, what are we going to do with them? Sit on our asses and wait for someone else to do something about food insecurity among our aging population, literacy of the next generation, poverty with its own set of challenges? Listen to pundits, sitting on the sidelines, collecting their pay for distracting us from the business at hand?

Go you! Here in Australia we have to vote, but the fine isn’t that terrible so most of us vote for at least some of the reasons you named. 🙂

Yup. Technically we’re breaking the law if we don’t vote, because it’s compulsory. Plus you have to record your preferences, which count towards the final result. Quite complicated.

That photo is one of my faves. It was a perfect morning, and the light through the trees made me so happy.
As soon as I saw the ballot measure wanting to repeal background checks and waiting periods on the purchase of firearms and making exemptions for gun shows, I was all over my ballot! Yikes. In a state where recreational marijuana is legal, what was THAT all about?!
People. That’s what it comes down to. People. Here it was fracking and alcohol sales.
