Satire cuts to the heart of a culture’s failings with laser sharp focus. This literary device has been employed since antiquity to point out that we are absurd creatures, we humans, who believe ourselves superior to all of nature and one to another.
We exhibit behaviors both abominable and benevolent, proclaiming the sanctity of life while murdering for scrap and patch. We foster filth on prevailing winds and allow the vices of society to be put on display; for entertainment purposes only, of course. All the while, we are confounded by the ever-growing lack of human decency, common courtesy, and privacy. The betterment of humanity comes at a price. Civility comes at a price.
It is only fair that we should get what we pay for.
